Fete dela WSK!

DEC 8-18, 2011

Fete dela WSK! is dedicated to contemporary electronic, digital and experimental sonic art, as well the diverse range of artistic activities in the context of digital culture in South East Asia.

WSK! -- three cryptic letters, which can only provide as much as the sum of the parts.

Organized by SABAW Media Art Kitchen – a not-for-profit organization whose primary interests lie in curatorial and research-based production towards the imminent intersections of art and technology.

ABOUT

Now on its third run, Fete dela WSK! again breaks the boundaries of art and music by featuring innovative artists and experimental musicians from different parts of the globe alongside some of the Philippines’ most distinguished young and established artists.

Since its inception in 2008 as Fete dela Wasaque, the festival organized by SABAW Media Art Kitchen has had a particular focus around performances within the field of electronic arts, social interactivity, and innovative music.

Fete de la WSK! 2011 comprises of events and activities that critically ruminate the odd relationship between space and the public through the exploration of different venues from the usual (pubs, galleries and museums) to the alternative (open spaces and virtual spaces). The intensity of the intervention is also expressed by WSK!, which comes from the Filipino word wasak which literally means “shattered” or “splintered.”

The performers slated to participate include: The Diegos, Black Zenith, Terence Lau, 1escV?, Samuel Andre, Bottlesmoker, Moeth, Kristian Kelner, Good Leaf, The Hermetic Order, Gentle Universe, Wilderness, Slow Hello, Outerhope, Similar Objects, Manuel Nicolas Alvero, The Strangeness, Radioactive Sago Project, and Bent Lynchpin.

Other than concerts, we will also be having art exhibitions and shows in different parts of Metro Manila. They will include Lummoblocks, a digital game to be projected in the facade of the Ayala Museum by Barcelona-based collective Lummo (Spain); installations by Kawayan De Guia (Philippines) and Denis Lagdameo (Philippines); audio-visual installations by Samuel Andre (France) and Lirio Salvador (Philippines); internet-based art by Tatong Recheta Torres (Philippines), and Stéphane Degoutin and Marika Demineur (France); and many more.

The festival will also be featuring lectures and workshops by both local and foreign artists, including talks at the Lopez Museum and Ayala Museum under SABAW’s Bedroomlab lecture series (circa 2010)--an informal art-tech-diybio platform, wherein open discussions, brainstorming sessions, lectures, network meetings, performances, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and public gatherings take place in people's living rooms, gardens, laboratories, and other intimate spaces.
